Voucher

A receipt or statement attesting to the receipt or expenditure of money, the corrections of an account etc; primary documentary evidence of transactions and their nature and validity.

Voting rights

The rights of shareholders to elect the board of directors and to vote on certain resolutions at the annual general meeting of the shareholders.

Voluntary liquidation

The dissolution of limited company through a resolution of the company itself, as a matter of its own decision.

Volume cost

Most costs have two components: fixed and variable. By definition, fixed costs remain constant over different volumes of output. Variable costs vary proportionally with volume. Volume costs are such costs as show strong correlation with output volume.

Volatile stock

A stock whose value tends to undergo drastic changes being highly speculative. A stock of which quoted price appears to have little correlation with the fundamentals of the company.

Voice-over

(In TV). The commentary made by an unseen speaker. These are usually expert or explanatory comments to add lucidity and significance to the visuals.

Vogel’s approximation method

A term in mathematical programming Vogel’s approximation method is an iterative procedure of computing a basic feasible solution of the transportation problem approaching the optimum solution.

Vocation

An occupation for which an individual is assumed to have special skill or training; vocation is a profession or line of skill which has a demand in the job or service market and helps to earn a living.

Visual display Unit/VDU

The screen of most computers (except portables or other using LCD or gas plasma displays). See CRT.

Vision setting

In global competition mere cost-cutting or even value-addition exercise is not enough. Corporate leadership and growth relies on new ideas and uncharted vista. Leadership has to set a dream and vision of itself and spread the idea throughout the organization.

Visible

Attention drawing. Visibility of a product or organization is a measure of its standing or prominence in the relevant environment.

Virus

A program usually hidden in a file or e-mail that infects your computer by altering or deleting files.

VIP

Very Important Person. A term which decides the protocol of dignitaries in official functions or assemblies.

Viewpoint

Opinion. The angle from which an issue is considered.

Videotex

A mode of linking potential buyers and retailers via telephones and computers. The retailers can display their commodities on the home screen and book on-the spot orders.

Video conferencing

Visual communication between two or multiple parties by means of a special monitor on a display screen that is connected to a TV monitor and a telephone line irrespective of the location of the parties anywhere in the world.

Vice president

An officer, who is just bellow in rank of a president; he usually functions in the absence of the President on the letter’s behalf.

Via

By way of; by means of “Via-media” is an often used phrase denoting a compromise.

Very high-frequency (VHP)

The portion of the radio spectrum extending from 30-300 MHz

Vertical split

A division of the formal formats of responsibility of an organization along successive functional lines such as production, marketing, service, etc. each working as profit-centre through divisional pricing.
